We have an excellent chef, Cas Dowden, who has cooked for some of the best restaurants in Bar Harbor. She started with us last year and not only is her cooking delicious but also her attending to various food needs is meticulous and caring. Our meals are not normal “retreat or workshop food” that you may have experienced elsewhere. Dinner is served to us while we relax and chat together around our large table looking out on Frenchman’s Bay and the Gulf of Maine. This is a unique aspect of my retreat that you’ll not find elsewhere.
In the morning, before breakfast, most of us sit on one of the three decks enjoying our first cup of coffee, embracing the salt air, my flower gardens, and the sun-dappled ocean hovering in the distance.
Cas' breakfasts include choices from eggs to oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit and assorted freshly baked goods: we are well prepared for our first session of the day, at which we work hard.
We’ve surely earned our lunch. We keep this meal light, but again, with variety from day to day, and pleasing to our varied tastes.
By dinner time, we’re all looking forward to one of Cas' memorable meals. At each dinner, you’ll choose your appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Vegetarian as well as dairy and gluten free choices are always available. And, of course, if you like Maine Lobster, it is your choice for our closing dinner together!
